Vesuvianite - Jeffrey Mine, Quebec, Canada

Sizeable, blocky Vesuvianite crystal from the long-closed Jeffrey Mine, a former asbestos quarry in Val-des-Sources, Estrie, Quebec, Canada. Once a prolific source of Garnet, Vesuvianite, and other minerals, specimen mining has not occurred here since 2001!

This piece has a neat, flat termination, plus good size and luster. Also note the purple core! This bicolor specimen contains traces of Manganese in the crystal structure, leading to the presence of a purple zone.
